How do We Show AuthorLove?

How do we best show #authorlove?

Well here I will point you to a fantastic post written by one of my favorite new authors – Jody Hedlund. Follow her on Twitter @Jodyhedlund . She gave me the idea for this #hashtag.

Her blog post: 10 Simple Ways to Support an Author you Love was an extremely popular post and has some fantastic advice. so go and have a look.

These are my top ways to show #authorlove

I base my blog-hopping and interactions in the blog-sphere on these principles. Please note that I do only promote books that I actually have enjoyed. I do not go around talking up a book that I know is rubbish. My respect for the people on these lists is genuine.

1. Write an Amazon or Goodreads review - Readers look at the number of these to see the exposure of the book and how popular it is. It doesn’t HAVE to be a 5 star review, in fact I am suspicious of books that only have a small number of 5 star reviews as I wonder if they are just friends posting.

2. Hit the like button on Amazon  - More likes shows popularity and interest. A book with more likes is more likely to be a top quality book, not some of the trash that is unfortunately around these days.

3. Tweet about their book or the author themselves - If you like them, say you like them in public! It is all good exposure. One tweet from a reader, is better than 20 tweets by the author themselves.

4. Increase exposure to their blog - Link their posts into your twitter feed or like them on face book, or post links in your blog. Have their blog on your side bar. Any exposure is good exposure. Help them get their name out there. You get the benefit of having your name on their site in comments, and you are posting great content to twitter which increases your “value” in the twitter sphere.

5. BUY THE BOOK – Finally – Just buy the book. Grab a copy for your friend too while you are there. Have a b’day that you don’t know what to get them, grab them the book. Once you have read it, leave it in your staff room, chances are some bored worker will take it out and read it.

6. Tell the author you like their book – I’m sure everyone likes to know when they are doing something right. Too many people speak out when they don’t like something. –> Speak out when you do like something.

Go on guys!!
