My historical novel, Summer Rain, welcomes the reader into the world of Rain, a young Cherokee girl. As she and her best friend realize that there are strangers who are poised to take their land and home away from the Cherokee and other neighboring tribes, the girls are also witness to the birth of the new written language of Tsalagi in the year 1821 and the printing press in 1827. As she grows into maturity just as the Trail of Tears begins, Rain falls in love with a white boy and is forced into the decision of following her heart to save her very life-or remaining loyal to her family, knowing that in doing so, she could lose not only her true love, but her life as well.
